Micah 6:8
King James Version (KJV)
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
My son has had a few weeks off of pre-k for the holidays, and we’ve had a lot of fun working on crafts and decorating. My favorite craft that we made was one I found on Pinterest. (adapted from here) It has his hand and footprints along with the meat of the verse above, Micah 6:8. I love this craft because it adds another faith element to our home, looks great, and will forever document my son’s hand and footprints at this age. And it didn’t cost much to do. The frame I bought for it was the most expensive item, and Michael’s Craft store had frames 50% off with a coupon for an additional 25% off as well. Not bad at all.
For this craft I used:
· 16x20” colored matt board/poster board (if you have a baby you could easily do this on a smaller scale than the 16x20 – my boy is almost 5 so I needed the larger size!)
· Tube of gold paint
· Paint markers in silver and white
· Foam paintbrush
· 16x20 frame
· Child willing to get messy! We actually did ours one hand/foot at a time and cleaned them off immediately so it wasn’t a big deal.
I used the foam paintbrush to paint my son’s hands and feet and then gently placed them on the poster board. I then freehanded the heart with the foam brush. Let it dry. Then I came back with the paint pens to add the lettering. One bit of advice – don’t push too hard on the paint pens or they splatter! (and did all over the painting, but I wasn’t going to do it over, so it stays) If anyone asks, I’ll say it makes it more artistic. Let it dry, frame it, and you have a great new piece of artwork for your home!
Here are the photos:

Looking good!
Framed and displayed in the hall by my son's bedroom.
Have a fabulous week!
Keep praying for me and I'll keep praying for you!

I love this!! just not sure I want to do it FOUR times... maybe just my youngest! :)
ReplyDeleteYou could always use one hand from 2 of your kids, and 1 foot from your other 2 kids. Then write their names really small next to their hand or foot. I'm planning to use one of my girl's hands and the other's feet. Just a thought. :)
DeleteWhat a great idea! I've also seen where you use their hands to make the heart part too!
DeleteI just read through many of your blog articles as a result of seeing this post on Pinterest. I am glad you were "compelled" to blog. I see a gift of expressing your heart through words which is going to encourage the discouraged! You truly are glorifying our Maker and I pray you will continue to be full of vision and words from the Holy Spirit this year. Bless you, young mother!!!!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I am going to make this piece of art for my office at church to remind me of God's heart for how we are to minister in His name:)
i just ADORE this project! I've shared it here: http://dollarstoremom.com/2012/01/pinterest-picks-23/
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words! When I started this blog I told my husband that if this blog even slightly blesses or helps one single person, it is SO worth it! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet project! I found you from Pinterest also. Thanks for your great ideas!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this great inspiration! This verse has become so meaningful to me as my heart bends toward the anti-slavery, abolitionist cause. I'm also excited to share that the amazing author, Margaret Feinberg, repinned this from my board and your artwork is spreading like wildfire around the world of Pinterest. God bless you!
ReplyDeleteThank you! God is good!

ReplyDeleteYes, you can! It is already on my pinterest page - http://pinterest.com/melme/tgd-crafts/ Thanks!
DeleteThank you!
Deletejust wondering if you could do this on a canvas board - so that way to you don't have to frame it? will the pressure of hands and feet and writing make it look not as nice.
ReplyDeletelove it!!
Thank you! Sure, I'd definitely give it a try on canvas! I think it would work fine as long as the kids didn't press super hard on it. If you do it, let me know how it turns out!
DeleteJust saw this on Pinterest and I LOVE it!! One of my favorite verses, and such a unique and beautiful way to display it. Definitely going to repin this one. Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteIf you go to garage/rummage sales, you can find cheap frames and this would be a wonderful way to repurpose them. I plan on making some of these for gifts. God bless.
