He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
My son has had a few weeks off of pre-k for the holidays, and we’ve had a lot of fun working on crafts and decorating. My favorite craft that we made was one I found on Pinterest. (adapted from here) It has his hand and footprints along with the meat of the verse above, Micah 6:8. I love this craft because it adds another faith element to our home, looks great, and will forever document my son’s hand and footprints at this age. And it didn’t cost much to do. The frame I bought for it was the most expensive item, and Michael’s Craft store had frames 50% off with a coupon for an additional 25% off as well. Not bad at all.
For this craft I used:
· 16x20” colored matt board/poster board (if you have a baby you could easily do this on a smaller scale than the 16x20 – my boy is almost 5 so I needed the larger size!)
· Tube of gold paint
· Paint markers in silver and white
· Foam paintbrush
· 16x20 frame
· Child willing to get messy! We actually did ours one hand/foot at a time and cleaned them off immediately so it wasn’t a big deal.
I used the foam paintbrush to paint my son’s hands and feet and then gently placed them on the poster board. I then freehanded the heart with the foam brush. Let it dry. Then I came back with the paint pens to add the lettering. One bit of advice – don’t push too hard on the paint pens or they splatter! (and did all over the painting, but I wasn’t going to do it over, so it stays) If anyone asks, I’ll say it makes it more artistic. Let it dry, frame it, and you have a great new piece of artwork for your home!

I love this!! just not sure I want to do it FOUR times... maybe just my youngest! :)
ReplyDeleteYou could always use one hand from 2 of your kids, and 1 foot from your other 2 kids. Then write their names really small next to their hand or foot. I'm planning to use one of my girl's hands and the other's feet. Just a thought. :)

I see a gift of expressing your heart through words which is going to encourage the discouraged! Thank you! Sure, I'd definitely give it a try on canvas! I think it would work fine as long as the kids didn't press super hard on it. If you do it, let me know how it turns out!

ReplyDeleteIf you go to garage/rummage sales, you can find cheap frames and this would be a wonderful way to repurpose them. I plan on making some of these for gifts. God bless.
